Experiment registry

What has been imaged with a miniscope, in what animal, with what indicator, through what optical access — and who to ask about it. Every entry records the details a methods section usually compresses into one sentence: coordinates and their reference point, viral titer and injection volume, how long expression was allowed, lens geometry, whether virus and lens went in together or in separate surgeries, and how long the preparation sat before baseplating.

How to read an entry

Every entry carries a curation status banner saying where its values came from:

Extracted from full text
A curator read the paper's methods and transcribed the values. Anything the paper did not state is left blank rather than inferred — a missing field means the source was silent, not that nobody checked.
Confirmed by author
Someone who ran the experiment has verified or corrected the entry. This is the strongest state, and it is conferred by a curator after making contact — never self-asserted through the form.
Community-submitted
Contributed through the submission form and not yet reviewed. Worth following up; not yet a verified record.
Needs review
Flagged as incomplete or possibly inaccurate. Check the source before relying on it.

One page describes one preparation, not one paper. A study that imaged two regions, or the same region in two species, appears as two entries sharing a publication — see Guo et al. 2023, which contributes three: wired rat CA1, wire-free rat ACC, and head-fixed mouse cortex.

Contributing

Unpublished preparations are explicitly welcome, and are some of the most useful entries here — a working recipe that never became a paper is invisible to everyone else until someone writes it down.

  • Add an experiment — six required fields; everything else optional.
  • Correcting an entry about your own work, or asking for it to be marked author-confirmed: edit it directly, or raise it at office hours.

The field worth filling in even when the rest is blank is "what was hard about this preparation". Attrition rates, lens clouding, expression that came up too hot, cabling that tangled — none of it survives peer review, and all of it saves someone else a cohort.
