UCLA Integrated Baseplate + GRIN
Hi Everyone!
I'm sharing my notes on using Miniscopeparts.com baseplates, run by Shylo Stiteler, to create an integrated baseplate + GRIN akin to the Inscopix integrated baseplates. These of course do not have the magnet action, but if you are keen on expressing your virus and then attaching the miniscope to the baseplate to allow you to see your cells before cementing the baseplate in place, this method may suit you.

I am in the process of trialing this out myself, but if I can give you any tips or advice please don't hesitate to contact me sandra.poulson at pennmedicine.upenn.edu and I will try my best. Also, Shylo is fantastic and will work with you to modify his baseplates to suite your purpose. He has other baseplates than just these simple square ones, and he can machine them to your needs. - Since I'm here I also wanted to share this about using a commutator for ULCA miniscope recordings.
- We purchased two of the Neurotek motorized UCLA compatible commutators. Hendrik Steenland knows his machines (see all his white papers for reference https://www.neurotek.ca/profile/), and while they are more expensive than the Open-Mac commutators, they are fully made with metal and not plastic. A collaborating lab to mine has had many issues with the Open-MAC commutator, so we chose the Neurotek model. https://www.neurotek.ca/12-channel-commutator-for-intan-and-ucla3-4-miniscopes/
- He is in the GTA in Ontario, so it is traveling over a border, but he is extremely diligent and will package your purchase securely and track the package. Hendrik also will share a blueprint for a McMaster t-slot frame to use above your behavior arena - you can buy his or he also recommends just buying the parts. I believe this motorized model can also use an adapter for fiber photometry or drug infusions if you need it. Any of you ephys people may recognize Neurotek - Hendrik knows his stuff.
