Inconsistent error
« on: November 01, 2016, 06:17:19 PM »
Hi,

I am experiencing inconsistency in the Miniscope Controller operation. I've tried connecting the scope to three different Windows 10 computers but the software crashes after varying delays (see attached for a sample screenshot).  I've never seen a "red screen" though. Has any one encountered the same problem?

Hi,
A few questions:
  • When you attempt to connect to the Miniscope does a live video stream show up at all or does it crash before anything is displayed?
  • Can you try plugging in a webcam and see if the DAQ software connects to that without error?
  • Does the DAQ PCB have all 3 green LEDs on?

Hi Daniel,

Please see below for answers.

1. Yes I see a live video stream show up. On some trials I even adjusted the gain/frame rates but then it'd crash. The longest time I kept it on (without manipulating any parameters) was for 7 minutes.

2. I had a webcam plugged in. It only works when I connect the Miniscope before the webcam. When I have only the webcam connected, it only connects by the scope connect button.

3. Yes all 3 LEDs are on.

Hope my answers are clear.

Thanks for the answers to my questions. The issue you are experience is most likely caused by a poor coaxial cable connection. Even if the green DATA Link LED appears to be solidly on, there still could be an issue with the data connection (you may be able to see this if you connect an oscilloscope to the driving signal of the DATA LINK LED).
I suggest replacing the coax cable with a new one and redoing all the soldering. If you are going to be at SFN this year feel free to bring your Miniscope system with you and I can take a look.

Sounds good! I'll post an update once I try new cable/re-soldering. See you at SfN.
