Hi Antonio,
This is what I used to replace my L-13 and it worked. Good luck!

Electronics / Replacement of L13 inductor on the DAQ PCB.
« Last post by Antonioflorido on July 01, 2019, 01:38:06 PM »
Hi all,

apparently the L13 inductor on my DAQ PCB burned and I need to replace it for a new one. Since I'm in Spain, I would like to try purchasing local components. I have found similar inductors, although I am not sure what the especifications for the ones that are burned are. I need to select one based on the following criteria: inductance, tolerance, Q min., SRF min, RDC max and IDC max.

Does anybody know the especifications for the L13 inductors Sierra Circuits placed on the DAQ PCB?

Thank you so much in advance.

Hi Daniel,
Could you give the latest update about using  larger sensors ?
Thanks,

Electronics / DAQ power supply recommendation
« Last post by pcooper on May 03, 2019, 03:55:03 PM »
Sharing a recommendation to solve a signal noise issue created by most cheap power adapters.

Problem:
If you're using the 42AWG coax cable from the master parts list and your line is much more than 3 feet long, you'll probably need a power adapter to run the scope reliably. Most AC/DC adapters use a cheap switch-mode converter with minimal filtering to produce the DC voltage. Any noise from the power supply will be coupled into your miniscope communication signal.

I noticed the issue on my oscilloscope while trying to troubleshoot random connection failures and sudden red screens. The 1-2MHz scope signal looked relatively clean, but there was a saw tooth pattern around 100kHz when the power supply was plugged in.

Solution:
This power supply is designed to eliminate noise. Comes with an adapter that fits the DAQ, as well as international power adapters. The 9V model is practically noise-free and has no observable impact on the scope's communication signal when plugged in.

While the intermittent nature of the errors makes it hard to determine if this has made a significant difference, it certainly eliminates a variable. So far it seems to have improved stability. We have purchased one per DAQ for our lab. I recommend considering the same if you're using long cables and experiencing connection issues. Make sure to get the 9V model.

Surgery and Baseplating / depth of lens
« Last post by dechuan on March 14, 2019, 01:03:03 AM »
Hi,

We are beginners and just followed the routine in the online workshop. The workshop showed that during the lens implantation, first align the lens with the top of the skull at the most posterior part of the craniotomy and then quickly insert the lens 1.35 mm below the top of the skull, does the bottom of the lens touch the vertical striation at this time or go deeper?
And in our experiment, I found the distance between vertical striation and most posterior part of the hole is about 0.6-0.7 mm, do you see this in your experiments? And do I still insert lens 1.35mm? I waited three weeks after virus injection.

Many thanks,
Dechuan

DAQ Software/Firmware / Event marker
« Last post by hsiao on March 10, 2019, 03:18:24 PM »
Hi,

I am wondering if the elapsedTime in settings_and_notes.dat can be millisecond since I was using the note function as an event marker for stimuli. A second resolution is not enough for this.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

General Discussion / Imaging tdTomato

Has anyone had success imaging tdTomato labeled cells with miniscopes? If so, what changes did you make? What LED did you use? Any other tips?

Thanks,
Dan

I didn't end up getting it working.  I might have if I was a better surgeon...

DAQ Software/Firmware / Re: Custom frame rates
« Last post by Daniel Aharoni on January 20, 2019, 05:33:34 AM »
Hi mathewrynes,
Yes you can modify the source code to get custom frame rates. In order to do this you will need to add a 45FPS option in the frame rate drop down list as well as edit the Miniscope DAQ firmware running on the Miniscope DAQ PCB. Just search for 'FPS', 'framerate' and 'frame rate' to locate relevant portions of the code. You will also need to read the CMOS imaging sensor data sheet to calculate the correct register values to achieve 45FPS.

When running at 60FPS, where do you see the large variations in frame rate? Is it in the numbers displayed in the Miniscope DAQ software or is in the timestamps in timestamps.dat? The CPU timer we use to calculate instantaneous frame rate and inter frame interval has a couple millisecond variability which could cause the calculated frame rate to bounce around a bit. Also try grabbing the newest version of the Miniscope DAQ software which might help.

Lastly, if you are seeing a significant increase in dropped frames then there is likely no non-hardware related solution.

DAQ Software/Firmware / Custom frame rates
« Last post by mathewrynes on January 18, 2019, 05:16:58 PM »
Hello everyone,

Is it possible to edit the source code to use custom frame rates? We would like to try running the CMOS at 45 fps. If so, which files should we be looking at?

Also, when running at 60 fps recording, We get a large variation in the frame rate and higher frame loss than at lower frame rates. Is there any way to solve this that is not hardware related (new CMOS/DAQ, writing to SATA III or higher speed SSD etc.)?

Thanks!
