Image of DAQ board set up

since the google drvie pics always need authorization, I put the pic on instgram.

Hope that I can get some suggestions on what's going wrong with the mscam error.

DAQ Software/Firmware / Question about mscam retrieval error
« on: August 04, 2017, 08:49:03 PM »
Hello Daniel,
We met a problem when testing the microscope for the first time and got a mscam retrieval error when trying to connect the camera. We are using a 3.X version system, with the coax cable connected to the DAQ, 3 green lights are on, and the red light on CMOS is on as well, with no flickering, connected K2 only for USB. I checked the voltage between the central pod of SMA connector and the ground (inner wire v.s. outer wire of the coax cable) or the central pod v.s. the lateral pod of the connector, both of which seem fine (with a voltage of 4.87V). Also there seems no short between the = and - point on CMOS. Considering the possible issues caused by the USB cable / OS, I also checked the whole system on a Win7 laptop and got the same problem. Would you please give us some hint on the possible reasons?
Another issue that we found is about the software it self. On the bottom right corner of the Miniscope controller, there is a window showing the current status of processing steps, but the window cannot be enlarged so we cannot see the second half of the sentences. Is there anyway we can view the whole log?

Thanks
Shaohua

P.S.
Attached are the images of DAQ board and the SMA connector. Would you please help us to check if there is anything wrong on it?

Electronics / Re: Question about group ordered PCB boards and sensors
« on: March 24, 2017, 02:21:45 AM »
Hi Daniel,
We can't order the LED PCB board through Silver Circuits (the recommended vendor) because they refuse to be added in our purchasing system and only accept paypal. I would have to find another company to make the LED PCBs. There are several questions I didn't get the answer from the instruction file.
The thickness and hole sizes are limited to 0.6-0.8mm and 0.2mm, is it okay to use 0.8mm for thickness and 0.2mm for the hole size? I saw some answer about the DAQ PCB, you said it might be fine for those to use min 0.2mm holes, but this LEB PCB seems to be really small, I wonder how much it would affect the board if we cannot bring it down to 0.13mm.
The PCB vendor I found are also asking for min Tracking or spacing, from 4/4mi to 6/6mi, which one would you suggest?

Thank you !

Electronics / Question about group ordered PCB boards and sensors
« on: March 10, 2017, 06:25:34 PM »
Hello Daniel,
I have several questions about the group ordered PCBs and sensors.
I signed up for the group order, which includes the CMOS sensing PCB, the CMOS sensor, and the DAQ PCB, will the sensor mount to the PCB when we got them? If we order them separately, will that be very hard to mount the sensor to the board? I know that this question sounds a little bit weird, but I'm just a bit too worried since I don't have experience in making boards by myself.
The second question is more related to the ordering. How would the companies charge us, would they send quotes directly to us or through the UCLA group?
Then it would be great if you could tell us an estimate of when the group order would be placed.
I really appreciate your help with these questions.

Best,
Shaohua

Group Miniscope Orders / Re: New Miniscope PCB Group Signup Sheet
« on: March 04, 2017, 06:29:42 PM »
Hello Daniel,
I have some questions about the group orders.
So our school has a specific purchasing system that anything we need to buy using research funding needs to go through the system. My question is that how are we going to pay for the group parts, will the company bill us separately? And can they accept a purchase order?
And also I'm wondering when the group order will be placed?

Thank you!

Optics / Re: GRIN lenses from Inscopix
« on: March 02, 2017, 02:23:10 AM »
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the information. Seems that I didn't really pay attention to the last few paragraphs :P
Here I still get a question about the 2 lenses system. We had some leftover relay lenses from inscopix, but we are not sure about the pitch. So I'm not quite sure if those would work well with objective lenses from Edmund. I got some info from a friend in Texa saying that they found it quite complicated to find the suitable pairs of lenses, they used objective lenses from Edmund and relay lenses from Gofoton, but they had to reshape the whole microscope for these pairs to work. Is this because of mismatch in pitches? Would you think the inscopix relay lenses work well with Edmund objectives? (we now have 6.1mm X 0.5 mm and 0.8 X3.3 prism)

Thank you!

Optics / Re: GRIN lenses from Inscopix

Hi Civckstrom and other friends,
I got similar response from Grintech and Inscopix, who don't offer objective lens, and they don't sell relay lens larger than 1.00mm.
After I contact Edmund Optics, they seem not have the appropriate lenses, they only offer lenses suitable for over 670nm wavelength. So I don't know if you guys find any lenses that will fit our need here?
Walter, from go foton said that they just got some new made lenses from manufacture in Japan, but they seem to be relay lenses instead of objective lenses (different in pitch from what I understand , 0.25 for objective and 0.5 for relay lens). So where could we get these lenses to make a two lenses system?

Thank you
Shaohua

Thanks, Daniel! Also would you give us a little bit hint of the timeline?

Hi Daniel,
I just wondering if you guys have plans to release the optogenetics compatible version of miniscope in the future? And if so, would it be possible that we can upgrade the current version of scope to that? It might need some changes in the plastic frames as well, so I guess it might need to be built from scratch...

Thanks.
