Title: MSCam Frame Retrieve Error
Post by: qdong8 on December 12, 2017, 04:08:16 PM
Hello, we need your help.
I ordered the miniscope and the DAQ PCB from LabMaker and they worked well. Last week the coax cable was broken and came off from the SMA connector. So I tried to solder the cable to a new SMA connector. After that, when I connected the miniscope to my computer, the 3 LED lights on the DAQ PCB were on and  the excitation LED in the miniscope was also on. However, I got the MSCam Frame Retrieve Error when I tried to connect the miniscope using the software. I wonder if it is cause by some problems of the soldering.
Thanks!!!

Hi qdong8,
Yes this sounds like an issue with the soldering. Did you check for shorts on the SMA2Coax PCB before plugging it into the DAQ PCB?

Hi Daniel,
I didn't do that. But I am sure that there was no contact b/w the two wires. Could it be caused by shorts? If so, does it mean the DAQ PCB is damaged and cannot be fixed? Now the PCB looks good. The 3 LED light are all on. It can still be recognized by my computer. Looking forward to your answer. :'(

Hi qdong8,
If the coax cable did short near the SMA connector on the DAQ PCB then there is a chance inductor L13 was fried and needs replacing. L13 can get damaged by a short and cause the exact situation you are describing... all 3 green LEDs are on on the DAQ PCB, the red and blue LED are on on the CMOS PCB, but the computer cannot establish a connection to the video stream.

Thanks a lot! I will try to find it out.

Hi Daniel,
I replaced the L13 inductor and it works now. Thank you so much!
I measured the resistance of the inductors. The old L13 is only 0.3 ohm, while the new one is ~1.7 ohm.
