Title: Swivel/tether for hands-off recording
Post by: AScheyer on November 22, 2017, 10:14:05 AM
Hello - I would like to know if people use a swivel or tether of some sort for imaging in freely-moving animals. We currently imaging in active rats, and I sit with them and ensure that the cable does not get tangled, wrapped around anything...etc. as they move through their environment. I am worried that this interferes with their naturalistic behavior and would like to use a tether of some sort which would allow me to be more distant.

Any suggestions?

Hi AScheyer,
Take a look at the bottom of this post, http://miniscope.org/board/index.php?topic=337.msg368#msg368.

We often use 2 channel commutators from DragonFly for Miniscope recordings in mice as well.

Instructions for an inexpensive passive commutator tested with the Miniscope can be found: https://optogeneticsandneuralengineeringcore.gitlab.io/ONECoreSite/projects/SlickPassiveElectricalCommutator/
