Title: Excitation LED not powering on
Post by: Stephanie Staszko on July 05, 2017, 10:27:33 PM
Hello!

We have our system set up but are having issues with the excitation LED not powering on.

All LEDs on the DAQ box light up and the red LED on the CMOS sensor light up when connected to the computer. We are also able to obtain an image using the software. However, when we connect the scope the blue excitation LED does not come on and doesn't come on when we change the intensity. The half circles on our CMOS sensor have been soldered together.

We thought it may have been an issue with damage to the LED, but we soldered a new LED onto a new LED PCB with no success. Any insight would be appreciated!

Hi Stephanie,
This still sounds like a damaged LED or a short somewhere along the wires that connect the LED PCB to the CMOS PCB. You can hook up a multimeter in current mode in series with an LED or resistor (around 100ohm) and make sure there is current flowing and it can be adjusted between ~0mA and 40mA.

Hi Daniel,

It turned out to be that our LED wasn't soldered to the LED PCB correctly so we think it may have been shorting where the wires connect. After straightening the LED and building up the solder on the wires we are in business! Thanks for all of your help  :)
