Title: Materials to replace delrin
Post by: leesj1991 on February 28, 2017, 09:26:17 AM
Thank you for your efforts in realizing this miniscope design.

We are currently trying to set up the relay lens system, and according to the online guide, you used a metal or plastic sleeve to mount the lens on the miniscope body.

As you have suggested, we were interested in creating the sleeve using delrin, but unfortunately that material is not available in Korea.
Alternatively, two materials avialble are poly acetal and mono cast nylon. Are you familiar with either? If so, which would be preferable / better suitable for your design?

Thank you,

Hi leesj1991,
The main concern with plastics in this application is that they are easily machined and that they don't fluoresce. Black mono cast Nylon would probably work but you would want to place a piece of in under the Miniscope at full excitation intensity and see if it fluoresces at all. Luckily for you though, acetal is a form of Delrin so I would suggest using black acetal.
