Title: Soldering SMA cable to DAQ PCB v2.3
Post by: syhuang on October 11, 2016, 05:07:22 PM
The layout in v2.3 is different to that in v2.01. I am confused about how to solder the SMA cable to the DAQ PCB while watching the video in the guide.

BTW, just would like to confirm that the SW4 (Reset button) also need to be soldered since Daniel mentioned that the new design requires no soldering.

Thanks.

Hi Syhuang,
Thank you for raising these questions. I will be updating miniscope.org soon with details on the new DAQ PCB design but for the time being I will outline them here.

DAQ PCB v3.2 is the newest version of the DAQ PCB. You no longer need to solder an SMA cable to the PCB. The PCB now comes with a through hole SMA connector already soldered onto the board. If looking at the PCB from above (usb connector on the bottom and SMA connectors on the top) the right most SMA connector is the connector used to connect the DAQ PCB to the CMOS PCB. The left 2 SMA connectors handle optional triggering and sync signals. The 3D printed DAQ Box from Shapeways has labels for all these connectors.

The reset button (SW4) does not need to be soldered to the PCB since there really is no use for a reset button any more. The PCB will run fine with SW4 missing.

Hi Daniel,

It is very clear now. Thank you so much!

If v3.2 doesn't need the SMA cable soldered to it, why are there still pads?  Should we just ignore them?

Hi Honi,
Yes you can ignore the un-populated pad for now. It is there in case you need an additional digital input/output connection on the DAQ in the future.
